Epoxidised Soyabean Oil (ESBO), marketed by KLJ under the trade name KANAMOLL-620, is a vegetable oil-based light coloured secondary plasticizer. Chemically identified as epoxidized soybean oil (CAS No. 8013-07-8), it is widely used in PVC and Rubber processing as a co-plasticizer and acid scavenger.
ESBO functions as an acid acceptor for hydrochloric acid liberated during PVC heat processing and also acts as a secondary heat and light stabilizer. It is compatible with various coating systems including PVC, PVA, nitrocellulose and chlorinated rubber.
In flexible and rigid PVC formulations, it is used to improve processing characteristics and enhance formulation stability. Due to its vegetable oil origin and epoxidized structure, ESBO is also used in inks, adhesives, sealants, lubricants and other industrial applications as a reactive diluent and functional additive.
