PVI (Vulkalent G) by Lanxess is a rubber processing retarder based on N-Cyclohexylthiophthalimide (CTP). It is widely used in sulfur-cured rubber compounds to extend scorch time and improve processing safety before the onset of vulcanization. The product is commonly used where controlled processing time is required during mixing, extrusion, calendaring, or molding operations.
Vulkalent G is particularly effective in formulations using sulfenamide accelerators and is also used with mercapto, thiuram, dithiocarbamate, and basic accelerator systems where compatible. It is suitable for various elastomers including NR, SBR, NBR, IIR, BR, IR, and EPDM, depending on formulation needs.
The material is supplied as a beige crystalline powder and is designed for satisfactory incorporation in rubber compounds. It is also referenced as a replasticizing agent for compounds exposed to excessive heat during processing. Proper evaluation under actual production conditions is recommended before commercial use.
