TBBS is a delayed action sulphenamide accelerator used in sulfur vulcanization systems for rubber compounding. PMC supplies this grade under its Accicure range as Tert-Butylbenzthiazyl Sulphenamide. It is commonly selected where a balance of processing safety and efficient cure rate is required. TBBS is widely used in natural rubber (NR) and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) compounds where controlled scorch characteristics are important during mixing, extrusion, calendaring, and molding operations.
According to the manufacturer data sheet, this product is supplied as white to off-white powder or pellets with typical specific gravity of 1.3 at 25°C. It is insoluble in water, soluble in methanol, and slightly soluble in petroleum ether. TBBS is commonly used in tyre tread, extrudable rubber goods, and camelback compounds. It may also be used in combination with secondary accelerators where faster curing systems are required while maintaining processing safety.
