The reference rubber testing oils are required for development of oil resistant rubber components. These oils are used to test rubber components which encounter contact with various solvents and oils. The rubber products are immersed in these oils for a specified time and at a specified temperature and then tests for tensile strength, hardness, percent elongation at break, and percent volume swell are conducted. ASTM standard D471 defines various standards for these tests.
